Mixed Paper Drop-Off Program

For All Commercial Businesses

The Municipality of Kingston is cordially inviting your business to participate in its new mixed paper drop off program for commercial businesses. The mixed paper drop off program for commercial businesses began on Friday, February 29 at the DPW Warehouse. The DPW Warehouse is located at Church Street and Third Avenue. Drop off hours are 7:30 am to 2:30 pm on designated dates.

Acceptable mixed paper products include envelopes, junk mail, magazines, newsprint, mail order catalogs, office paper, shredded office paper, box board, corrugated cardboard, etc. If it rips, it’s recyclable!

Future mixed paper drop off dates for commercial businesses are March 21, April 18, May 16, June 20, and July 18.

Help Kingston recycle and save money for your business. We look forward to your participation.

Mixed paper is only accepted in cardboard or paper containers. Large quantities will be accepted in tied bundles or in large plastic or metal containers that can be dumped and reused by the business. Simply put, we do not accept plastic bags or metal or plastic container for disposal.

New Changes to Recycling Program

We are extremely excited to announce upcoming changes to our recycling program. Global paper markets and emerging technologies have created an overwhelming demand for the commodity of mixed paper. The demand for mixed paper products provides us with an opportunity to improve our recycling program and better serve our residents.

Effective November 12, 2007, the municipality began collecting mixed paper products curbside on the same days as newsprint. From November 12th forward, mixed paper is being collected on all regular established newsprint collection days. Mixed paper will not be collected on regularly scheduled garbage and commingled recycling collection dates. Do not put any of your mixed paper products in plastic bags. Plastic bags will not be collected. Continue to use paper bags for recycling all of your mixed paper products.

Acceptable mixed paper products to be collected curbside on regular established newsprint collection days are as follows:

Newsprint                                          Mail Order Catalogs

Envelopes                                          Box Board (cereal boxes etc.)

Office Paper                                      Magazines

Junk Mail                                          Corrugated Cardboard

If it rips, it’s recyclable!

As an added convenience for our residents, recycling containers will be placed at the DPW Warehouse for residents to drop off both commingled and mixed paper products on a 24-7 basis. These containers are for convenience purposes only (vacations, illness, missed your regular collection, excess materials, etc.), and not to be used for primary recycling purposes.

Help us recycle. Separate all recyclable materials from your garbage.

Seasonal Ordinances

Here is a friendly reminder of some of our seasonal ordinances that keep Kingston clean and a great place to live.

Leaves: It is illegal to deposit leaves into the streets. Please respect your fellow neighbors and our community. Excess leaves in the streets block storm drains, which may cause flash flooding during heavy rain events. Excess leaves in the streets also create dangerous conditions for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. If you see someone depositing leaves into the streets, please call our Police Department at 287-6911.

Dog Waste: Kingston is a dog friendly community. Our long, tree-lined streets are excellent for walking your dog. Municipal ordinance requires dogs to be leashed and owners of dogs to carry waste collection devices at all times. Please clean up after your dog.

We thank you for keeping Kingston a great place to live.
